The One With the Eye Appointment

It takes a lot for me to go to the doctor. Basically, I have to be dragging a limb or forcefully carried in. It's not so much that I'm scared of the doctor, I'm just not a fan of disrupting my schedule and I secretly think I have superhero genes.

Flu with a 103 degree fever during finals week my freshman year of college? Never stepped foot in the doctor. I bummed some old antibiotics off my friend, slung back some Gatorade and hit the library.

My drug provider

Catastrophic stomach bug on my 23rd birthday? Two hours late for work and met my family for wings that night.

Just a 23 year old babe and the cutest dog in the entire world

Sinus infection....devoured about two boxes of Sudafed and 13 boxes of Kleenex...never went to Urgent Care. Just fogged my way through life for two weeks.

But there is one doctor that I will make time for and that is thee ole eye doctor. And this stems from my irrational fear of blindness. It may have been all those episodes of Little House on the Prairie I took in but, really, eyesight is nothing to be messed around with in my book.

So I started my weekend off with an exciting trip to the ophthalmologist. Within the first five minutes the newbie tech had blinded me since she didn't know how to use the picture machine. She kept saying "Ok open your eyes real wide" but after snapping about 45 pictures with bright blue light flashes that are equivalent to the sun's brightness on the hottest day of the year, this was no longer a possibility.

After I'd recovered from that I learned that my eyes need two prescriptions...oh yes, not your standard eyeballs here. What I have is high maintenance eyes; requiring one pair of glasses for reading and another for distance and driving. I'm going to need my eyes to get their own job so they can pay for all these sets of glasses.

I ended the appointment with your standard eye dilation. And even though Atlanta was overcast on this Saturday, I still felt like I'd been inside a Vegas bar for 24 hours when I stepped out. The sky was so bright...I mean blindingly bright. I fumbled my way to the car and found comfort in a pair of huge sunnies. I then made my way to the gym where I felt like my eyes were so open I could see people's souls.

It was on my way that I realized I couldn't read any text messages or, really, anything that wasn't 5,000 feet away. Great...this must be what it's like to be old. And you always have that little eensy fear that your eyes will never go back to normal...or you know...where you only need two pairs of glasses.
i'll take all of these glasses...non-prescription please:)

Are you a doctor-goer or a hold-out-to-the-last-minute-er?

XO, (I can see again), A

Doctor hater over here. My husband had to make my doctor's apt. for me the last time I was sick. Then he had to drop me of at the doctor's office and wait for me to go in. It's not that I hate the doctor, I just don't want to spend all day to hear what I already know "you're sick."

I just went to the eye doctor last week too. After 11 years of having the same glasses, they were no longer cutting it. I love those ones you picked! I need to go get my news ones.

I usually don't go to the doctor unless it is something serious. Other than that I am a "going to the store buying everything related to that illness" kind of girl.

Haha this post had me laughing so many times. Great one-liners. Love the glasses! I hate going to the doctor. But I ALWAYS make time for my eyes. You're right...Little House on the Prairie is probably to blame.

I LOVE going to the doctor, but my work schedule lately hasn't let me set an appointment in months. By the way, those glasses look fantastic on you!
