The Future of Blogging

Untitled
I feel like the landscape of blogging has changed in the past year or so. I remember when I started blogging way back in 2009....I felt like I knew nearly every blog out there. It was a smaller community then and everyone was like a friend. I never missed a blog post - not a single one.

These days my Google reader now claims over thousands (yes, plural, yikes!) of unread posts.

I had a different job back then too that maaaay have afforded me some day time hours for blogging and networking and more creative writing. I probably devoted about 10 hours a week just to blogging and catching up on blogs.

Ahhh that was the life! Those days seems like such a nostalgic time and so long ago.

And now...
Look like a girl. Act like a lady. Think like a man. Work like a boss

Now sometimes I feel like I'm scraping the cobwebs of my brain for content some days. I sign on to read blogs and see that there are dozens of new blogs that have popped up and gained popularity. And the "old faithfuls"...the ones that I've been blogging with for all these years....the friends...well when I read them I find that I've been gone for far too long. That there are babies on the way, or they've moved, or closed up shop altogether.

One blogger that I followed for years and recently stopped blogging at the end of last year said that she thought 2014 would be the year that blogging became unpopular. But....I disagree. Sometimes I think "maybe I will stop blogging" but then I think of all that I've gained from blogging.

An essential online diary of all the big importants that have happened in my life for six  years.
A creative outlet to write
And a collection of some of the most amazing friends. I mean, I went on vacation with two bloggers friends last year and this year I'm going on vacation with four girls I've never officially met  - how cool is that!

So even though I think the landscape has changed, I think blogging will live on. Because I think it's all these things and more to others as well. There's something unexplainably special about blogging don't ya think?

What do you think? Is blogging still in or on its way out?

XO, A

Still in! I took a two week hiatus and almost died that I wasn't able to talk to all my friends via email and read up on their lives!

I’m not a “big” blog but sometimes I wonder if it’s all worth it to blog ..and then sometimes I love it! It’s so hard to get noticed with all the blogs... but you should definitely keep doin’ it! I always look forward to yours :)

I have similar thoughts, I think in a few years I will only do it as a personal outlet and not worry about who reads it at all.

it's a crazy blogging world out there, great post!

I feel like you took all of my thoughts right out of my head. There are days that I feel like closing up shop, but then I remember that one of the best parts of blogging, is going back years ago and reading what you were doing! I still enjoy reading blogs, but I feel like I am lacking the creative content to write my own.

Blogging is my therapy. My addiction. I need it.

And since I never find time to sit down and read books, I turn to the blogging world (your blog for sure!) to get my read on.

I totally agree with you!! Blogging is only going to continue gaining speed and we are truly the influencers now - and companies realize the depth and breadth of our "word" and that's why they continue to reach out! I started just last year (late) and honestly can't imagine how I went so long without it!! I've loved reading your blog before I had my own and always love reading how honest you are!! :)

I couldn't agree with you more. I still read all my fav blogs (your's included, duh)...but I find myself posting less and less. I definitely think that blogging has changed over the past couple of years though, it's not what it use to be, that's for sure.
