The Move of First World Problems

As I may have mentioned once or twice several hundred times before, I moved this past weekend.

And now that I'm all moved and things have found their proper "home," I have to say....that moving is one of the beastliest and grossest things ever in the whole wide world.

I honestly don't have a lot of "stuff." I hate cluttered spaces....I will stare for minutes at a time at my dresser deciding if a lone picture frame looks too cluttered. I admittedly have a lot of clothes...just not a lot of stuff.

But there's something about cramming all your belongings....clothes, chachkies or whatever they may be... creatively into square boxes, lugging, pushing, pulling way too heavy pieces of furniture up and down hallways and cleaning spaces that haven't seen the light of day since you clunked your dresser down on it years ago......

And that something "exhausts" you.
And stresses you out.
And leaves you with very little patience.....especially when it happens to coincide with tax week that you may have procrastinated on and one of the busiest times of work ever.

And when you find yourself upside down shining a lantern-shaped flashlight that your grandma gave you three years ago into the darkest little space trying to screw your bed back together with the oddest little tool made for someone with gnome-size hands....only to realize said bed is in no way going to re-assemble. And when you find your TV screen going completely black after you so proudly sledded it down the hall like a football player very inventively on a flattened out cardboard box......you may find yourself in tears. And you may find yourself dramatically saying things like "Whatever, I don't even care!" And at some points, you may even find yourself having a legitimate adult temper tantrum where you shoot down every solution your very patient mother suggests.

Naturally, this story is all hypothetical....I would never act so atrociously :)

But in reality..and after a few deep breaths....it's just a TV right? And it's just a bed frame right?

And not to deny that those things aren't still stressing me out in the back of my mind but, I still have a mattress right? And I still have a second TV in my bedroom right? And when I think of it in those kind of terms....those hypothetical tears seem so silly. Because in the grand scheme and big picture, these are truly "first world problems,"....inconveniences and setbacks that will most certainly find their solution at some point.

It wasn't too long ago that my car, computer and cell phone all died in the same month. And all those things found solutions too...and now that's just a distant memory I refer to as the "August From Hell."

So that's the story of my move that resulted in only two furniture fatalities.....which I'm sure will soon be a distant memory of itself that I will call the The Move of First World Problems......

...first world problems that I will be contemplating the solution too as I spend my nights yoga mat style on the floor :)

girl... someone could make big bucks making a reality show out of girls trying to move! i know that i turn into such a crazy person and stress out to no end! i think it's because we just have too many shoes and clothes and beauty products and so on... haha ;) i'm glad your process is (for the most part) over with! good luck getting comfortable in your new place! i am sending warm thoughts and hopes that you have plenty of wine on hand ;)

Moving is a HUGE pain! Having moved almost every year since graduating from grad school, I understand this pain more than most. It never seems like you have a lot, until you try and put it in boxes, etc. And reassembling things, like you said, can be SUCH a challenge. But, I think you have a good perspective. Things will get done/fixed/replaced and life will move on. But, I think you're totally allowed to have an adult temper tantrum--I'm sure I've had a few along the years :)

i wish i didnt have lots of 'stuff.' Between Kurt the Incredible Hoarder and me and my clothes, we make terrible movers lol

moving temper tantrums are completely allowed during times like these!! I am glad you made it thru alive!!

you should've recruited a major hottie with big biceps to move everything for you and then treated him to a homemade bowl of cereal on your yoga mat with you. and then you should've whispered "dash" into his ear whilst combing your fingers through his perfectly effortless messy hair whilst he reads this here blog and tells you how perfect you are and doodles ash + dash = 4eva. ...am i getting carried away?

oh gosh I totally agree with you!!! I have moved 48569384765 times and the past two were with my boyfriend which just doubles all the stuff. Glad you're done with the moving part..now comes the fun part of making your new place your own!

ugh, I need to work on my adult temper tantrums too! at least you had a very valid reason for throwing one. I hope you hugged your mom for helping out haha. Those poor moms take so much crap sometimes :)

I hate moving! We finally bought a house in August, so I don't plan on moving for a LONG time, but before that, we moved four times in two years. Horrible. Glad you are all moved and now try to get settled!

I just went through the moving process. It is a crazy one. I agree with Julia...a reality show of girls moving would be entertaining!

I'm the worst at over reacting over first world problems, but you know what? We live in a first world nation. We are allowed to whine over broken bed frames once in a while! :)

Oh dear. Temper tantrums are most definitely OK in this case.

we just moved last September and it is the most stressful thing to pack your life and move it some where else. I went crazy and dread the next time but good luck! it's all over : ) haha

Moving is the worst. It can make the most rational, well adjusted people turn into screeching banshees that shoot death rays from their eyes! Gllad you were able to keep everything in prospective and not let it stress you too much! Good luck settling into your new place!!!

I love that you're being all zen about it, because you're right, in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have thrown a temper tantrum right there with you! :)

I have never ever moved(Well, okay when I was like 9 months old but I was still crapping my pants, couldn't speak and of course can't remember)so, I kind of dread the day when I do.

I'm sorry things were not working out properly! I have temper tantrums sometimes too. It just happens. Hope things are better now and your bed is put together!
