Never Grow Up

It wasn't long after I made my presence in this world, that I was gifted with my first baby doll. Her name was Sandy but I named her Sandy Kayla. Kayla was the name of my first best friend I ever had. Funny that my best friend's name now is also Kayla......Kayla's make great friends!

She was a special edition doll whose heads smelled like baby powder and whose bum was hand-signed by Xavier Roberts.

Sandy was never far from reach. And even though she was joined by many doll brothers and sisters over the years - both of the stuffed and plastic kind -she was almost my first choice when it came to sleepovers or vacations.

Over the years, our relationship changed. Her place in the cradle by my bed was swapped for a position on the book shelf in my middle school years, to the shelf above the window during high school and eventually the bottom drawer in my dorm dresser to her current place in the back of my closet. Yes, she even came to Atlanta with  me.

To this day, her head still smells like baby powder and her tooshie tattoo is still there...just greatly faded from many a cuddle and many a round through the washing machine.

And though childhood times are long gone and days no longer revolve around playtime, naptime and Full House and Family Matters TGIF Friday's, it's nice to peep in my closet and every once in awhile catch a glimpse of Sandy sitting there and be reminded of simpler days.

What was your favorite child toy growing up?
Happy Friday
XO, A

I was watching Anderson coopers show yesterday and he had a guest on who collected cabbage patch dolls. They had over 5 thousand and treated each of them like children..
I loved my doll... His name was Darrell. I took him everywhere as well

I had this polar teddy bear that I went everywhere with. It was white and would get so dirty and I remember when my mom would wash it, I would freak out like a mama bear or something. It eventually had to be put away, hehe, because it had gone through a lot. I wish I still had him.

I had a doll just like that! my favorite was this blue stuffed bear who I creatively name blue bear.

I had a cabbage patch doll named Faith Kelly and I loved her. I would sleep with her in my bed every night. And b/c I was a crazy sleeper, she would often get smashed against my purple wall and she now has purple smears all over her face. But I still love Faith Kelly, yes I do. And her tattooed little bum bum.

my first cabbage patch doll's name was Delta Jessie. i can't imagine why i would every name her that, but it just stuck.

i still sleep with my blankie every night. when i start dating a new guy i worry about what he'll think of me at our first sleep over. but then i remember that my blankie has been/ will be around much longer than any guy ever will!!

She's so cute. She looks like my old doll, Daphne Quinby, whose head smelled so sweet, but her shoes... my parents had to remove cabbage patch shoes from our house because the smell made me vomit. What ever happened to good old TGIF? I thought I just got a life, but recently went searching and found it no longer existed... (so what if it's 20 years later).

omg i was obsessed with cabbage patch dolls. My first one was a boy and his name was Vernon. Worst. Name. Ever. I still have all of mine, but they are at my moms in the closet there!

If I had to choose an actual toy it was probably a cabbage patch doll I had...otherwise it was my baby blanket, which I still have haha! It's a Winnie the Pooh one.

aw this makes me homesick!! my favorite toy was a babydoll. I'm not sure what brand she was.. but her name was baby jane. I loved her.

Wasn't a fan of barbies. I'd cut off all their hair and color on their faces.

I used to have a ton of cabbage patch kids, and barbies, but the one cat would steal my barbies and drag them around the house by their hair. probably one of my funniest childhood memories.

I also collected those hideous trolls.

I had a favorite yellow bear named Carl {after my mom Carla...but he was a boy}. I almost had to throw him away after my sister spilled pepper on him..but that washed out. When I was 9, I was playing outside in my fort {tomboy much?!} and a bird pooped on him and it was narsty and my mom made me trash him them. Sad day :(

Maybe that's why I hate pigeons so much... :)

haha I love this!

I had a doll growing up named Alice. As far back as i can remember, I've always had her... though my family's various moves and everything. I didn't bring her to college, but after i had settled in a new city after school, and realized i wouldn't be moving home/reuinted with her, I had my mom send her to me and I've kept her with me ever since! She's pretty beat up, but I don't mind!

I was obsessed with Cabbage Patch dolls when I was growing up! I had so many of them. I used to line them up and play school with them (real original, I know). But now I'm a teacher so maybe all that play payed off?

I love that you still have her. Sweet.
