The Story of the Blowout

Every since I've moved to Atlanta, there has been one thing I have really wanted to do.

And that's get a blowout.

But it's never worked out so far. There's either been no occassion for it. Or budgets were understandably tight. Or schedules didn't work out.

But one glorious day, a groupon showed up for the Blo Bar

So my friend Whitney and I snapped them up and scheduled appointments for this past weekend

And this girl was BEYOND excited.
Goodbye straight locks....hello beach bombshell waves!
We go to the blow dry bar, meet our hairstyles and they ask what we want. We both say the same thing:

BIG Volume, Loose Beach Waves

the vision.....

We get our conditioning treatment and move back to the blow dry stations

Whit and I chat as her stylist carefully sections her hair and begins to dry it with a big mega-bristle brush. My stylist begins the point and shoot method of just blasting my hair dry. I begin  to get nervous at this point as I know what my hair looks like when I power-blast it dry.....and it's not cute.

10 minutes later, Whitney is layer by layer devleoping soft, feminine beach waves. And my hair is now dry.... and 5 feet wide.

My stylist picks up the straightner that had been heating up........

For some reason, hairstylists love putting shirley temple curls in my hair. Like love it. I've been in 3 weddings and two of them......no matter what direction I've given or pictures I've brought in, it has also resulted in some form of Shirley curls and lots of tears.

(And by the way, who thinks this is attractive? Does anyone ever put boingy curls in their hair, look in the mirror and say "YESSS!!!")

20 minutes later, Whitney's girl was finishing of her do with a big curling iron and I had a head full of shoulder-length, steel-tight curls.....and full realization that this chick did not get the low-down on what a blowout was.

Our initial plan was to go from blowouts to see The Vow but as soon as we walked out, without even saying anything, Whitney knew I had some massive hair restoration to take care of. I rushed home turned my straightner up to its highest heat and sizzled the crap out of those curls.

I wished I had taken a picture of the "before" horror do but I was in such a rush. But I promise, it looked nothing short of this:

My end result was giant Texas volume straight hair which at that point, I was more than ok with.

But I will not give up. To the next blow-dry bar I will go. And I just know that one of these times I will walk out with huge perfect beach wave hair!

Have any of you ever been to a blowout bar?! What was your experience like?

Ugh, that happens to me a lot at weddings too, for some reason my hair just screams please curl me up as tight as you can!

I've never been to a blow out bar, but the idea sounds really cool! :)

my hair is as straight as can be and all I want is wavy beautiful hair. but i'm pretty sure a blow out wouldn't help! that stinks about yours - you should have at least got your money back??

I've never had a blowout before, just those keratin treatments that last 5 months. Sorry it didn't work out though :( Your outfit is super cute though!

I've never had a blowout but would LOVE to have loose, beach sexy waves. Why are these waves the hardest thing in the world to do?

Sorry your hair didn't turn out, but you look super cute in that outfit! I love those jeans and that big bag!

In my household, the term "blowout" means something entirely different. Something stinky in fact.;)

You look fab as usual btw!

Love love love your outfit!! Where is the shirt from?

I'm always terrified to get my hair done, it seems as though even if you bring a picture...the stylist creates their own vision! Frustrating. When I finally found my dream stylist(creepy sounding, I know ha!), she of course has to live 6 hours away from me. Not cool.

Oh my, though I love Shirley Temple, her ringlet curls are so 1930's. You're too beautiful to be curled like a child.

I've never had a blow out, but I'd love one for sure.

I just got the Aveda retexturizing treatment, like a Brazilian but without the chemicals, so my hair is currently friz free and super straight, which is awesome, but there's no volume. I think I'll just start carrying a comb to tease every hour for volume. The things we do as women to look good.

I would have been SO mad!! I thought the whole point of a blow out is that they use hot tools as little as possible! hmm.... that lady!

I loved the part when you said... who looks in the mirror with a head full of tight curls and is like YES!

hahah you are awesome. I just love the way you write! You rock my dear. You simply rock :)

LOVE YA!!

I think that you look gorgeous. I miss you!

My hair is stick straight and won't hold curl, so I guess I've got the opposite problem. To get my hair curly for my wedding updo, the stylist used (no lie) 100 bobby pins and 2 cans of hair spray. It took hubby and I 2 hours to get it all out that night ...

I wish you had a picture! I have been to the Dry Bar and loved it. You should try them out next time:)

As a hairstylist I hate hearing stories like this!!! What was that girl thinking?? I'm sorry you had that experience :( you can always call the salon and ask for a "re-do" a different weekend (and with your friends' stylist). Glad you made the best out of it, though!! :)

I want a blow-out so badddd! But I have a horrible fear that it will end up terrible or worse than imaginable bad. I keep hearing about Drybar where you can go and get blowouts for $35. Of course MS does not understand that this is cool and something they should invest it! ha.

I just looked it up and they have one of these in Atlanta! You have got to try it and let me know!!

I've never tried a blow-out because I'm so scarred from previous bad hair experiences! So sorry yours didn't turn out quite as you wanted, but it still looks fab in that picture!

That's just crazy! What are they doing working there if they can't use a dryer and brush correctly?! I would have been P I S S E D !
Hope you get to another blowout bar and get those big beachy waves :-)

Ashley!! This sucks! You were so excited and she did the tight curls! Ugh. Same thing happened to me at Kristen's wedding. I wanted long, loose curls and she did them super tight and made my hair like chin length. I had to turn around and pay a woman, when she left, to fix them!

Haha! This is so so funny!! I love this story. I've never gone to a Blow Out bar, but it seems like with the right groupon it would be such a fun girls day out activity.
