A Funny Place

The blog world is a funny place. To “civilians” I think it’s perceived as second life-ish. Where everyone sits at home in their dragon*con t-shirts petting their 12 cats and having fantastic lives with sizzling bodied avatars named Vicky Von Fra Fra or LuLu Santorini  Snapshot_040_large

But the truth is that it’s not like that at all…..Blogging is more an opportunity where you get to step inside anyone’s life you choose….
and then somehow doing that you find your best friends….
....and it’s magical....
....and then it’s immediately depressing when you discover your best friends live on the total other side of the country from you......

Needless to say, blogging is not what I expected it to be.

I never expected it would mean an inbox of thousands of messages from people – none of whom I’m related to and are obligated to be interested in my life but somehow still are.

I never expected it would mean having so many phone numbers in my celly of people I’ve never met

I never expected it would mean planning trips to Vegas with people I’ve never met…and totally feeling relaxed about it

I never expected it would mean finding girls who have stories so similar to my own, girls who can relate so completely to and who give you the unjudging freedom to openly share

I never expected it would mean lip-syncing (horribly might I add) and broadcasting it to the whole world to make fun of  see.
I never expected it would mean setting my airline alerts to check for weekend steals across the most random cities in the U.S….oh, and Scotland.

I never expected it would mean snapping pics whenever I see Diet Sun Drop or Weezy or sending a happy birthday message to a fuzzball over the phone (you know who you are).
I never expected it would mean shipping & recieving surprise packages here  & there

I never expected it would mean really understanding what it’s like to miss someone you’ve never met

The blog world is like pen pals on crack...or since I’ve never tried crack….like the chips at the Mexican restaurant which I’m convinced are basically the same thing.

(Ever notice how you tell yourself you’re only going to eat 5 or so….and then you’re ordering your second basket?)

So glad I found all you Tostitos-heads! :)

Too sweet! The blog world is a crazy place. I never thought I would have met anyone so much like me it's scary, and I never would have thought that I'd get a new best friend that I've never actually "met". Here's hoping for a blate soon!

so true - the blogging world is so strange to those who aren't part of it but it's so wonderful the people you meet and the relationships you form. And couldn't agree more about the chips & salsa - definitely has to be like crack (being that i've never actually tried it either)

I'm still kinda new to the whole thing, but I'm starting to understand what you mean! It's crazy how welcoming and sweet everyone is, and I find myself wishing I could meet some people! It's a crazy little world in blog world, but I'm loving it so far! Such a cute post. Hope your Vegas trip is amazing! :)

HAHAHA I feel the same way. I laughed out loud at this ... "Where everyone sits at home in their dragon*con t-shirts petting their 12 cats and having fantastic lives with sizzling bodied avatars named Vicky Von Fra Fra or LuLu Santorini"

Because that is soooo what my friends think it is. They like don't even want me talking about blogging any more. ha!!!

Amen! I've had so much fun with blogging and peeking into other peoples' lives. It's like stalking without being creepy. Welcomed stalking, if you will. Ok, maybe I shouldn't use the word "stalking." I think you get what I mean!

I love this post - I think many bloggers have had the same experience as you and are just as surprised! And those chips? Deadly. I don't really eat chips unless it's at the Mexican restaurant and then I just can't stop.

So true!! I totally agree with you--especially on finding people who are going through similar things as you are. It's crazy how different our backgrounds can be, yet we seem to understand each other! I love it! Oh, and the quote about it being about the story instead of the happy ending is awesome! :)

This post is amazing. And I could not have, a million years, have said it better.
There is nothing better than opening up to perfect strangers and receiving nothing but loving, kind words.
I don't know you but I already love you and your blog!
