Born

You know how there are just some people you are SO glad were born?
Farouk Shami and NASA scientists for giving us the Chi
Nicholas Sparks for The Notebook
Ryan Reynolds for his sheer beautiful manliness

And my mom….whose birthday is tomorrow.

There are so many things I am thankful to my mom for:

My love of shopping – Being homeschooled, my risk for having an affinity for soap and candle making and reluctance to relinquish my coulats and keds was extremely high. I’m basically a miracle. I owe my love of shopping, fashion and makeup to my mom who let us indulge in all things girly!

The Silly Supper – When my dad was on the police department and either working night shift or late, some nights we would enjoy the “Silly Supper” which basically meant we got to decide what we wanted to eat….and it could be anything in the pantry or fridge (except for sweets) …When you are 5 and basically told what to eat every meal of your life….this was HUGE

How to vacation – God knew just what He was doing when he placed me in a non-camping, non-hiking family. I think I would have run away if my family thought planting a tent on the side of a mountain, not showering for 4 days and waiting for fish to chomp on your cheese was “vacation.” ….No offense – it’s just not our style. I’m thankful vacation to my family means Disneyland, lounging on the beaches of Hawaii and football games.

Peanut Butter & Hershey Bar Sandwiches – This little invention is something my mom would bust out when I would have friends over for play dates. It’s white bread (only white bread will do – this is the one time I will say forego the healthier option), peanut butter and broken pieces of Hershey bar on top. Your mouth will rejoice!

The Sunny Side – At any point in time I can probably tell you what issue is bothering someone in my family…except for my mom. She’s perpetually positive. And she always listens ….no matter if I’m calling to see what aisle shake and bake would be on in the grocery store to more serious things. She’s the most encouraging person I know!

Of course there’s soooo many other qualities of hers I’m thankful for.

So mom, despite the fact that you let me rock a baby mullet for nearly two years, you’re one of my best friends!
Happy Birthday!

And Happy Friday Loves!

This was so fun reading and such a wonderful way to learn more about your family! My sister was homeschooled most of high school so I always think it's neat to meet other people who were too!

Happy Birthday to your mom!! Love this post! I am with you on vacations!! I would die in a tent or even camper. When we went to the beach a couple of weeks back we passed a camp ground with all of their RVS vacationing! I was so thankful I wasn't one of them!!

This is so sweet! Our special dinners we called "candlelight dinner" where we would turn out most lights and eat by candlelight. We thought we were super fancy and straight out of beauty and the beast. Xo-Jet

This post is so heart-warming. Happy Birthday to your beautiful mom!!

I love going back and reflecting on mother-daughter memories. I appreciate my mom more and more everyday, for the big things, but also for a lot of the little random things (like not wanting to go camping for vacation, lol) It looks like the two of you have a wonderful relationship and I hope she enjoys her special day :)
