1-2-3-4th

It’s a day traditionally spent in swimsuits near some body of water be it pool, lake or ocean….feasting on very Americana food such as barbecue, fried chicken, watermelon, strawberry shortcake and drippy ice cream sandwiches. A day full of cannonballs, face paint and volleyball games.  A day where everyone lingers outdoors far past the time the sun has descended waiting for the night sky to be showered with colorful fireworks of every shape and, at least where I’m from, to hear the warble of the military band playing “America the Beautiful” into the night.

The 4th is not traditionally a favorite holiday of mine but this year I plan on soaking up all the  Stars-&-Stripes Day summertime goodness. Here are some ways I'd love to spend the day:

Paddle-Surfing – When I went to Hawaii three years ago, this was ALL the rage and it’s a trend I’ve seen pop up all over recently basically because you can do it on any body of water….or so I’ve heard. This is definitely on my “to try” list…Have any of you ever been?

Outdoor Movie Night - Turn the spice up on the 4th with a cozy backyard film festival. Don't forget the popcorn!
Morning Boot Camp or Race– Atlanta has one of the nation’s largest 10K’s on the 4th of July each year. Normally holidays don’t bring “exercise” to the forefront of your mind but you’d be surprised at what an enjoyable start to your day it can be. I'll be starting my 4th off EARLY running the Peachtree Road Race with 60,000 other people

How are you spending the 4th?

Wow, good for you for doing a 10K on the 4th! Considering how much food I eat that day, I should probably do one too! haha

so fun! I think we're running the peachtree road race next year (didn't sign up soon enough this year) - I'll be spending my fourth being worthless laying by the pool - but we are going hiking on the 3rd so I don't feel too bad about it! :)

Lots of pool time. Of course, I'm more of a buoy this year than an olympic swimmer, but I'll take what I can get.

Your comment to be about not being able to reply to me...do I need to change my settings or something? I'm confused!!!

Never heard of this paddle thing you speak of, but I don't really do bodies of water unless it's the pool and my summer river trip. And the only reason I'm OK with that body of water is because I'm normally drunk! Speaking of pools ... that's where you can find me this weekend. In a cover-up. Have a great 4th Ash! Don't do anything I wouldn't do (which isn't saying much).
