The Trim

I'm not a huge fan of the hair salon. I know- soo odd and completely ungirly right?

I'm fine with getting a regular color touchup....that's predictable. It's when they pull out those sheers that I get all nervous and panicky inside. I had a TRAGIC hair cut when I was 13 and have been scarred since.

Because of this intense hairdresser fear, I've been sporting some frazzled split ends the length of long island......all screaming to have a hot date with some scissors.

So. I finally gave in. No-I didn't chop my own hair! I'd never be that brave or confident in my scissor-skills. My coworker got me a referral to her super swanky hair dresser but I got all compulsive on Sunday and decided it had to happen then.

I walked in to DAAS asked if they could fit me in. I took it as a sign they could.
As I was waiting, the front desk boy directed me to a dressing room to "put on a frock." As I was standing in this dressing room, I started wondering why I was in a dressing room at all....was I supposed to take my clothes off to put this frock on? I mean, this wasn't the massage parlor? But then again....do you really need this much privacy to put on a smock? After 2 minutes of internal debate, I decided that de-clothing was silly and potentially embarrassing and threw the ginormous frock on before exiting.
(Clearly me and high class places go hand in hand.)

I sat down in the chair and sized up my hairdresser. I could see the hunger of "fresh meat  hair" in her eyes and knew I instantly had to put her in her place....so I threatened her within an inch of her life. Only Kidding....but I did tell her "I know I'm going to be your least favorite client of the year because I have split ends that are like 9 yards long...but all I want is a microtrim. " She smacked her gum, laughed and said (in the deepest, twangy southern accent) "Oh girl, it's no problem - I know you want that long hair!" I  felt I could trust her since her locks brushed her waistline. She could sypathize right? I commented that I loved her hair and she responded "Oh girl, it's all clip-in hair! I want long hair like you too!"

One thing I do like about hairdressers....they can talk to a wall....we get completely along in that regard. We chatted about fashion, the weather, our favorite stores and the latest happenings on the Real World....And before I knew it, those fringy stray ends were on the floor and my hair looked....exactly the same. Yes, this is how I deem a successful haircut.....if I come out of the salon looking exactly the same.

I removed my maternity wear, headed up to pay the skinny-jean-clad-eyebrow-pierced cashier boy who acted like it would cost him his last breath to speak actual words to me and tipped the heck out of clip in hair girl. We're basically forever friends now.

The End.

Happy Friday and Happy Easter Loves!

I'm glad your haircut went well. It's so exciting to finally find a hairdresser that understands what you want - I know how it is!

Ha this is hilarious. I am always wary of hair salons as well. I'm lucky enough to have a mom who actually cuts my hair just the way I want it. And the best part is, if there is something I want changed, I have no apprehension telling her!

There's nothin better than the feeling after getting a haircut! I love it!

I wish I had long long hair like ya-self..but I feel like I would get frustrated with it! So props to you.

I went to this fancy smancy hairdresser once in Boston, and they took me to the sinks to wash my hair, and above their sinks, they have a bunch of fun knick knacks glued to the ceiling for your viewing pleasure. A pink and orange Toucan figurine must have decided it was his day to become unglued from the ceiling and fell onto my neck.

haha I wish you had got undressed and put the frock on. that would have practically MADE MY LIFE! it is dumb though that they make you go into a dressing room! I would be confused too

im glad you and your hairdresser connected and she knew what your fabulous self wanted :)

Happy Easter pretty girl!

Going to a new stylist is always so nerve wracking! Especially because I'm so wishy washy when I go in there. I know what I want in my head but cannot for the life of me explain it. I think I got a guy fired once because I went back the next day after he cut my hair b/c he talked me out of going as short as I wanted it. Oops.

I know how you feel completely. I don't enjoy going to salons because of so many bad experiences. I hate paying for something I hate so I color my hair myself (yes, I do. I've got the hang of it after years of practice.) I'm glad you finally had a good experience!

glad it went so well! I am the same, I avoid haircuts like the plague because I am afraid of getting it all chopped off...after all this work of growing it out!!

Hahaha, I hate when you tell them you want a trim and come out with hair a few inches shorter! So glad you had good luck! Have a great weekend!

Hahah I can totally relate. I had a bad cut as a kid and now I always keep my eyes shut while they are cutting even though I no longer have bangs.

Have a fabulous weekend Ashley!

This story is so cute! I have a weird phobia with salons too. I get anxiety in the beginning but I always feel so pretty and girly after. I guess that doesn't really make it a phobia then, huh? Haha. :)

I feel the exact same way about hair! I mean, they can dye it any color, but it's the cut that scares me!

HAHA you're too funny! It's always important to have a great hairdresser! I love my hairdresser but still dread haircuts. I had my color done today! :) I'm sure your hair looks great!

I'm always terrified of hair salons too. I've had my share of bad haircuts over the years, so now I only go to really, really great referrals by really materialistic girls. They always know what they're talking about.
I'm glad you had a great experience ;-)
Happy Easter!

i got my haircut today... and i don't like it. so i sympathize. i always want something different, but i hate the change after it's cut. well im glad you found someplace that worked for you :)

I always get a microtrim, too!! I only want the littlest amount cut off. Why did they have a dressing room?? That is just weird. Definitely good thinking about leaving your clothes on. That could have been awkward. Haha.

Can you teleport that lady to Indiana?! I was seriously JUST complaining to J about how I haven't had my hair cut in over a year because NO ONE understands what a trim means. And I refuse to PAY someone to royally screw up what I've been working on! You found a gem, keep her around! :)
